FESTIVAL OF THE WHALES

March 7, 2017

The 46th Dana Point Festival of the Whales got underway last weekend and lasts through March 12th.  It is a celebration of the the migration of the gray whale from feeding grounds in the Bering Sea of Alaska to the birthing grounds in warm waters off Baja California.  Undertaking this 5000 mile journey yearly, the whales pass the picturesque California beach town of Dana Point.  Located just south of Laguna Beach, Dana Point has been host to this entertaining and educational event for 46 years.  First and foremost for a visit is a not to be missed whale watching adventure to observe the majestic creatures up close – an adventure for which you need an advance reservation.  Other than whale watching there are many activities to entice and entertain the entire family.  There are art lessons, art shows and sales, sand sculpting, fishing, music, the Mobile Marine Mammal Museum, car displays, a town center walking tour and food.  It is a wonderful way to spend the day in a most picturesque spot by a beautiful California beach.  What could be better??  Many people descend on Dana Point each year for the festival so be prepared for crowds.  But the adventure and the opportunity to observe such magnificent creatures in their habitat on a yearly journey is definitely an experience not to be missed!  Check out the website for more information.                                                                                          www.powerhiking.com
