A HAPPENING BY THE BAY

January 25, 2018

What a morning by the San Francisco Bay!  Flocks of geese and ducks were flying low across the water. Sea gulls were circling and the sound of barking seals could be heard echoing. What was the reason for all of this fun? The herring were in the water. On certain days every year the herring migrate to the shores of San Francisco Bay to lay eggs and all of Mother Nature knew that today was one of the days. Even the fishermen were out on this beautiful morning. What a sight!

Wow! What a day!

May 18, 2017

The sky is blue.  The sun is shining. On such a gorgeous San Francisco day it is hard to find a prettier location than Lands End. Located at the westernmost tip of San Francisco, the vistas are amazing. Whether you gaze at the Marin Headlands or back at the Golden Gate Bridge, this is the weather to enjoy such a unique spot. The trail is well groomed and a little over a mile so an easy walk with many view benches along the way. Or just spend some quiet time reflecting on the beauty or watching the ships pass under the mighty Golden Gate. In the mood for culture? Visit the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Beautiful exhibits and a beautiful building. Lands End is a special spot on a sunny day.

San Francisco Waterfront

March 17, 2017

Exciting news on the San Francisco waterfront.  Pier 29 has received the OK for the development of retail shops and hopefully a recreational area as well.  This pier has been vacant and unused for years and is a another step in the revitalization and beautification of the San Francisco waterfront area.  There will be shops – most selling homemade San Francisco goods – a wine bar, a coffee roastery, and a craft beer brewery.  We are looking forward to a wonderful addition to this exciting and beautiful area.

SAN FRANCISCO’S CROOKEDEST STREET

February 19, 2017

Lombard Street in San Francisco has long been considered as the crookedest street in the world. And it is! And it is beautiful and scenic with fabulous vistas. What wonderful thoughts went into designing this amazing street. Today, however, it is still beautiful but very busy. Tourists come from all over the world to see it, drive down it and admire it. Fabulous but not fun for those residents who live on or around the street. Traffic is a nightmare and can back up in the neighborhood as the cars wait a turn to drive down. Tour busses stop at the bottom of the hill so that the tourists can get out and snap a picture. Then there are the thousands of tourists walking up or down the stairs of the street. So some in City Hall are considering a charge for the cars and busses. Don’t know how this would work or be regulated and it is a long time out (if ever) but it is an idea to help control all of the people looking to enjoy this wonderful San Francisco icon.
