PowerHikers Visit Texas Hill Country

February 23, 2012

PowerHiking is visiting the Texas hill country. The weather is mild this time of year and great for golf, walking and outdoor activities. The area is rich in culture and history – visitng The Alamo and the River Walk – fun and good food! There is much German history in the hill country – Boerne, Fredericksburg, Gruene – all interesting historical towns settled by German immigrants in the mid 1800s.  The hill coountry even offers wine tasting! Wine Road 290 is near Fredericksburg, home of the growing Texas wine industry. There ate 10 wineries open for tours and tasting. Just up the highway from the hill country is Austin, the Texas capital. The capital building is beautiful and has regular tours and a very convenient trolley rolls around downtown for those who are not PowerHikers. The LBJ Library is terrific – adjacent to the UT campus. Right downtown also is the Museum of Texas with several floors depicting the history of the Lone Star state – fascinating and informative!
