With so much snow on the ground in Central Park, it is takes a major effort to keep the park clean, accessible and ready for winter fun. The Central Park Conservancy works hard all year to keep the park beautiful, but it takes an extra effort during winter. There is so much to enjoy in a snow covered Central Park. There is ice skating at Wollman Rink, Lasker Rink or the Conservatory Water. You can cross country ski through the meadows and on the bridal paths. And there is sledding on Pilgrim Hill and Cedar Hill. There are ice festivals, a fitness series, walks and guided tours of the winter park. For a complete list of activities, visit the Central Park Conservancy website and then visit the park! Spring and the explosion of daffodils and tulips are just around the corner.

FUN IN THE CENTRAL PARK SNOW
February 16, 2017New Carts in Central Park
January 21, 2017Central Park is beautiful every season of the year and a major destination for tourists visiting New York City. It is also beloved and well used by local New Yorkers. At any time on any day you can see joggers, bicycles, dogs, children playing , people strolling, people sitting and reading, people enjoying the trees and flowers, people picnicking, and people riding in boats or driving little electric boats – just to name of few of the myriad activities Central Park offers.
The Park is always clean thanks to the Central Park Conservancy, whose workers are out daily cleaning and picking up. And now you will see them flying around the park in hot new electric garbage carts. There is a new fleet in Central Park and they are clean, efficient, good for the environment and fun. Look out for them and wave a thank you hi to those who keep Central Park so beautiful for all to enjoy.
THE BIRDS ARE BACK IN TOWN
January 15, 2016The herring are running in San Francisco Bay and somehow the birds know. Nature is amazing! On this beautiful winter day, hundreds and hundreds of birds are circling the water and feeding. There are flocks of ducks of all different variety and color, flocks of geese, pelicans so full they can barely sit upright or fly, and sea gulls. They are everywhere – in the air, sunning themselves on the rocks and shoreline, floating in the gentle waves – but always eating. And frolicking among the birds are the many seals and sea lions -eating, gliding and barking happily. What a wonderful sight! www.powerhiking.com
HOLIDAYS IN SAN ANTONIO
November 21, 2015The holidays are coming and San Antonio is ready. The most fun event is at the River Walk downtown. The River Walk winds along the San Antonio River one block beneath the city. Walk, ride a boat, shop or enjoy a riverside restaurant and watch the boats go by. The Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony is an annual tradition in San Antonio and marks the beginning of the holiday season. This year it will take place on November 27th from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm. There is a parade of illuminated boats along the River Walk. Filled with lights, decorated and carrying celebrities and bands and music, it is great fun for the entire family. Tickets can be purchased online.
Another River Walk holiday event is Boat Caroling. Every night at 8:15pm between December 2 and December 20, a different group glides along the River and sings carols and other popular songs. The Fiesta de las Luminarias begins December 4th through December 20th. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening during that time period, luminarias are lit at dusk all along the banks of the River Walk. It is truly festive and beautiful!
