San Francisco Treasure

September 26, 2016

image.jpegimageimageWhat a treasure is San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.  On a cloudless sunny day, there is so much to explore:  the de Young Museum with its view tower, the Academy of Science with its living roof; the Botanical Garden; the Japanese Tea Garden; the Shakespeare Garden; or just relax on a bench in the park of the Music Pavilion.  If you like to walk, follow one of the many paths through amazing trees and greenery. Golden Gate Park is truly a treasure – particularly on a day like today.

Burnet Road in Austin is the emerging hot spot in the city.  A street once filled with car repair shops has renewed itself as a “must be” location.  You still see a car shop or two but Burnet Road is now home to chic shops, restaurants, cafes and ice cream – definitely worth the visit.

Also not to be missed in Austin is Scholz Garten.  Sitting right next to the University of Texas campus, the ambiance and the beautiful patio are another “must see”.  You simply cannot go to a UT football game without a stop at Scholz’ on the way – that is of course if you can get in!  Still a lot of fun at any other time it has been a favorite in Austin since 1866.  Iaustin-2t is always a stop on an Austin visit.

Festival in Little Italy

September 23, 2016

If you have not yet visited Little Italy to celebrate the Feast of San Gennaro, you do not want to miss out. San Gennaro is the patron saint of Naples and New York City has been celebrating this festival in Little Italy since 1926.  Mulberry Street is awash in red, green and white decor and the festival is worth a visit and lots of fun!

Fall has arrived but you would never know it on this bright and sunny first day of fall.  Spectacular weather!                                                                         http://www.powerhiking.comimg_9897img_9898img_9899

As Nashville favorite, The Hermitage Hotel, celebrates 100 years, the Capitol Grille presents several special events this fall.  From dinners supporting Tennessee state parks to a special performance of the Nashville Ballet to locally inspired dishes in support of The Land Trust to Thanksgiving featuring the bounty of locally sourced  and farmed vegetables, beef and turkey.  How special to enjoy such good eating while supporting Tennessee!  Foodies enjoy!                                                                                             http://www.powerhiking.comcapitol-grille

Hope you had a chance to visit the annual street food competition.  This is the 12th year of the competition as street food truck vendors vie for the coveted Vendy Cup.  A select few gather on Governors Island and prepare their best fare.  What a fun tradition and what fun tasting.  Yummy!
