New Carts in Central Park

January 21, 2017

Central Park is beautiful every season of the year and a major destination for tourists visiting New York City.  It is also beloved and well used by local New Yorkers.  At any time on any day you can see joggers, bicycles, dogs, children playing , people strolling, people sitting and reading, people enjoying the trees and flowers, people picnicking, and people riding in boats or driving little electric boats – just to name of few of the myriad activities Central Park offers.

The Park is always clean thanks to the Central Park Conservancy, whose workers are out daily cleaning and picking up.  And now you will see them flying around the park in hot new electric garbage carts.  There is a new fleet in Central Park and they are clean, efficient, good for the environment and fun.  Look out for them and wave a thank you hi to those who keep Central Park so beautiful for all to enjoy.Central Park 3central park

A Tradition Since 1924

November 23, 2016

Since 1924 New York has had the Thanksgiving Day Parade.  A event of fun and excitement for the whole family, thousands brave the cold each year to watch and thousands more enjoy it on TV.  The parade originally started with live animals from the city zoo and, taking only a couple of years off during WWII,  has evolved to the giant balloons that thrill millions today.  It is truly a wonderful family tradition and we are looking forward to it.  Hope you can enjoy it too.  Happy Thanksgiving!                                      www.powerhiking.com

San Francisco Treasure

September 26, 2016

image.jpegimageimageWhat a treasure is San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.  On a cloudless sunny day, there is so much to explore:  the de Young Museum with its view tower, the Academy of Science with its living roof; the Botanical Garden; the Japanese Tea Garden; the Shakespeare Garden; or just relax on a bench in the park of the Music Pavilion.  If you like to walk, follow one of the many paths through amazing trees and greenery. Golden Gate Park is truly a treasure – particularly on a day like today.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HIKE

June 27, 2016

Trees, water, blue sky and sunshine – what could be better than a day at Bon Tempe Lake! Bon Tempe Lake is a favorite of hikers, runners and joggers in Marin County and it is easy to understand why.  The scenery is spectacular.  Part of the Marin County watershed, it is a wonderful place to hike as the trail is wide, easy to follow and not steep.  The lake is stocked with bass and trout so you will probably see a fisherman or two about as you hike around it’s spectacularly scenic perimeter.  Bon Tempe Lake is a great outing for families as there are picnic tables and bbqs as well.  Plan to visit it soon!                                        www.powerhiking.comBON TEMPE

WHIMSICAL FAMILY FUN

November 7, 2014

Whimsical, fun and family friendly, The GREY WOLF LODGE in Kansas City, Kansas is a great family treat.  Bears, deer and wolf abound and a bear bench greats you at the entrance. Each visitor is presented with wolf ears to wear and all the clientele wander the hotel admiring the huge bears, deer, elk and moose wearing the wolf ears.  There is an enormous outdoor swimming pool, a whimsically bear oriented miniature golf course, a larger than life video game room and, the highlight, indoor water slides.  The water slides operate year round and it is great fun to watch adults as well as children splash through the bears, wolves and animals.  A small baby pool watches over the water slides.  It is truly a fun filled paradise!  There are chests, photographs, statues and all manor of magical items throughout the Lodge corridors, all rendered to life and speech by the magical wand in a child’s hand.  Food is good and abundant and the staff delightful.  If you are in the Kansas City, Kansas vicinity, the Grey Wolf Lodge is a must visit!
